Who We Are

Who We Are

For nearly 40 years, Grand Forks Montessori Academy's Montessori-based environment and premium education has provided Grand Forks a premier option for families looking for consistency in quality, based on our extensive experience and proven curriculum. Our year-round programming beginning at birth includes Half-days or Full-days with optional Morning and Afterschool Care, and a Summer Friendship Club for children 6 to 12 years.

History

Founded in 1983 as the Little Scholar Ship Montessori Preschool, our school has served children for generations, establishing a strong Montessori tradition in the Greater Grand Forks region. For four decades we have continued to meet the changing needs of our community yet remain true to our Mission and Core Values. As the first and only private, independent Montessori school in the region, we provide children premium care and education guided by Maria Montessori’s methodology.

Core Values

Exploration & Process: We believe in igniting the spirit through continued exploration of the world around us, and being involved first-hand in the learning process through the use of all our senses.

Tolerance & Acceptance: We believe in teaching tolerance and acceptance of others while respecting one’s own familial values and beliefs.

Leading by Example: We believe in guiding children by being positive role models and leading by example.

Learning from Life: We believe learning occurs beyond four walls and textbooks. We encourage the use of natural surroundings and life situations to provide teaching moments that lead to strong character development including empathy, honesty, integrity, perseverance, and self-confidence.

Science-based Health & Wellness: We believe in practicing and teaching age-appropriate, science-based health & wellness to promote emotional, mental and physical health. This includes teaching children to have a voice and appropriately expressing themselves, promoting an environment that allows children to work through challenges; as well as working towards and maintaining an environment that has a 100% vaccination rate.
